Preparing for the ISEE isn’t just about content—it’s about strategy, pacing, and knowing when to start. Many families wait too long to begin, only to find themselves cramming right before test dates or missing critical opportunities to improve scores. At Victory Prep Tutors, we help families plan early and prep smart—so students walk into the exam fully prepared, confident, and ready to succeed.
We recommend starting at least 4–6 months in advance of your child’s intended test date. Why? Because the ISEE isn’t something students can cram for. It covers a wide range of verbal, math, and reading skills, many of which take time to build—especially for students who haven’t seen this material in school yet.
Starting early allows for:
● Diagnostic testing and planning
● Skill building and review
● Strategy development for each section
● Full-length practice exams and timing drills
● Reduced anxiety through steady, measured progress
This timeline gives your child time to grow into the material, identify weak points early, and develop true test readiness—not just test familiarity.
The ISEE is administered year-round, but test availability follows three seasonal windows set by the Educational Records Bureau (ERB):
Season | Test Window | Notes |
---|---|---|
Fall | August – November | Ideal for early applications and first attempts |
Winter | December – March | Popular for final testing before school deadlines |
Spring/Summer | April – July | Great for early starters or second-year applicants |

Every student is different, but most benefit from 12–20 weeks of structured preparation, depending on their baseline score and target schools.
Here’s how our typical prep arc looks:
Phase | Description |
---|---|
Phase 1: Diagnostic & Plan | We begin with a full-length diagnostic test and use the results to create a personalized tutoring plan. |
Phase 2: Skill Building | Weekly sessions target core areas (verbal, math, reading) and introduce ISEE-specific strategies. |
Phase 3: Practice Tests | Students take timed, proctored practice exams to simulate test-day conditions. We review each test in detail. |
Phase 4: Final Review | In the last few weeks, we reinforce pacing, strategy, and confidence—focusing on test readiness and mental composure. |
Sessions are typically 1–2 times per week, with additional homework and check-ins to reinforce learning.
