ABOUT THE ISEE
What is the ISEE?
The ISEE — or Independent School Entrance Exam — is the standardized admissions test used by many of the nation’s top private and independent schools. A strong ISEE score is one of the most important factors in a competitive application.
The exam measures five core areas:
Verbal Reasoning
Quantitative Reasoning
Reading Comprehension
Mathematics Achievement

The ISEE has four levels — find the right one for your child:
Primary Level
Grades 2—4
For students applying to grades 3, 4, or 5. Focuses on foundational reading and math skills.
Lower Level
Grades 5—6
For students applying to grades 6 or 7. Builds on core verbal and quantitative foundations.
Middle Level
Grades 7—8
For students applying to grades 8 or 9. Increased complexity across all tested sections.
Upper Level
Grades 9—12
For students applying to grades 9—12. The most rigorous level, required by most elite high schools.
